Permabase Complete Application Guide
Application Overview
To achieve the correct application of Permabase (diluted at 10:1) for chip seal underseal or prime coating at 0.0389 gal/sq ft, use the following setup for a standard 20-foot-wide road.
Spray Setup
- Road Width: 20 feet
- Spray Pass Width: 8 feet (requires 2 passes with overlap)
- Length: 0.5 miles (2,640 feet)
- Total Area: 52,800 sq ft
- Diluted Application Rate: 0.0389 gal/sq ft
- Total Volume Needed: 2,054 gallons (1 tote of Permabase concentrate)
Truck and Nozzle Configuration
- Truck Speed: 5 mph (440 ft/min)
- Bar Coverage: 8 ft wide
- Nozzles: 5 total (1.6 ft spacing each)
- Flow Rate Required: 137 GPM total
- Flow Rate Per Nozzle: ~27.4 GPM @ 60 PSI
Nozzle Type Recommendation
- Use flat-fan or flood nozzles rated at ~27–30 GPM @ 60 PSI
- Example: TeeJet 1/4HH FloodJet TF-VP5 or UnitedBuilt BC2384
Spraying Procedure
- Make one 8 ft wide pass down one side of the road (2,640 ft long).
- Turn around and spray the remaining 8 ft on the other side.
- Ensure consistent 5 mph speed using cruise control or GPS speedometer.
- Monitor PSI and flow at nozzle bar; adjust pump pressure to ensure ~27 GPM/nozzle.
Total Application Time
- Each pass takes ~6 minutes
- Total spray time: ~12 minutes (plus turnaround time)
- Use water meter to verify gallons used per pass
Dilution & Gallon Requirements
Job Area
- Width: 20 feet
- Length: 0.5 mile (2,640 feet)
- Total Area: 52,800 sq ft
Application Rate
- Recommended Diluted Rate: 0.0389 gal/sq ft (based on 0.35 gal/sq yd)
- Total Diluted Volume Needed: 2,054 gallons
Dilution Ratio
- Mix 1 part Permabase concentrate to 9 parts water (10:1 total dilution)
- Each 275-gallon tote yields 2,750 gallons of usable diluted product
Totes Required
- Total Diluted Needed: 2,054 gallons
- Totes Required: 2,054 ÷ 2,750 = 0.75 → Round up to 1 tote
Summary
- Use 1 tote of Permabase concentrate diluted at 10:1
- Total output will cover a 20 ft x 0.5 mile road at the target rate
- Ensure full dilution in a clean tank or batch mixer before spraying
